Award Winner for “Supporting Category”
The EPIC awards 2016 were a very enjoyable morning, where children in care and care leavers got together to celebrate their achievements over the past year.
I feel very honoured to have won the supporting category overall and it is also a great feeling to be recognised for the work and support I do to help other young people in care and care leavers.
The children in care council help young people in care and care leavers by giving them a voice when they feel unable to speak up. We also consult with professionals to help shape and change the way services are run.
The children in care council has helped me with my interpersonal skills, confidence and public speaking skills. It has also helped me train professionals and university social worker students to understand the importance of young people’s voice.
I also help on a national level by going to youth benchmarking forums and the All-party parliamentary groups, which helps young people nationally have a voice. These I thoroughly enjoy.
